Why do you still shoot film?
I shoot film because I love the medium and can achieve amazing things with it. Film is fantastic with mixed lighting situations (like the harsh sun at noon) and provides a really natural look. I shoot film, the lab works their magic, and it comes back to me looking perfect. It’s like getting a long-awaited gift every time my film comes back. I get the little-girl giggles every time, and I hope you do too.
Wow, why is this so expensive? (My friend said they could do it. They have a good camera.)
This can be a really long and detailed answer, but I’ll try to sum it up in a few sentences. First, there’s my professional focus and devotion. Wedding photography – in Pittsburgh, around the world, and in the world of Disney — is my full-time job. I have studied, invested in, and practiced wedding photography for my entire adult life. I put my heart, soul, and sometimes very real tears into giving every single client the absolute best wedding photos they could ever hope to get.
Beyond my own commitment, there is a lot of behind-the-scenes action before, during, and after a wedding. The obvious benefits of a professional wedding photographer are that photography assistants will help capture more magical moments, and that your photographer friend will get to take part in those moments. On the business end, I manage insurance, professional-grade equipment, maintenance, film & development costs, online lab fees, website fees, designer fees, album and print costs, shipping, studio management, and more. You can probably see how these things add up. If you’re concerned about costs, just tell me about it. If you want Krystal Healy Photography to shoot your wedding, we’ll find a plan and price that works for you.
What kind of equipment do you use? Do you have backup equipment?
I am a Nikon girl for my digital images, and I carry a variety of professional level camera bodies and lenses for all of my shoots! For my film work I use my Contax645 with a variety of film types. I do have backup equipment for those just-in-case moments. (Knock on wood!)
How many weddings do you photograph per year?
In order to keep my quality and sanity intact, I take around 25 local and destination wedding commissions each year. This allows me to better serve each couple and lets us really get to know one another.
How many photos will we receive?
Typically my wedding galleries include between 500 and 1000 images. That’s a wide range, but it varies depending on the shoot options and timeline that you choose.
Will the photos be edited before I receive them?
All photographs are edited for color, contrast, and exposure. Extensive editing is also available for an individually assessed fee.
Can we print them and do we get the copyright?
This is another big perk of working with us. You can absolutely print the images from your wedding package! All packages include the high-resolution files, which you are able to print on your own up to the 11×14 size! We strongly recommend that you come to us for larger formats, as image quality can suffer at larger sizes. And if you don’t want to print your own photos, we can take care of it for you. We retain the original copyright on the photos, but pass to you — the client — the printing rights. These rights allow you to print and share like crazy. What it doesn’t allow is the sale of the photo. If you would like to purchase the full copyright, please inquire for pricing.
Are prints included, or do I have to order them?
Printed items are optional. Some of our wedding collections include printed items, including albums, so check in with us if this is something you are interested in! You and your wedding guests can order reasonably priced professional prints for up to 10 years from me directly from your online PASS gallery.
If you are looking to print on your own, we recommend MPix, a professional lab that sells to you online and delivers to your doorstep. For a more local (and still decent-quality) option, check out your local Costco. They actually do a remarkably good job at reasonable prices.
When will we get our images back?
Glad you asked. They will be ready for you within 4-6 weeks from your wedding! Bazinga. 🙂 You’re welcome. I also do preview a few by the following Monday on Facebook to keep you going until you get your online gallery! After that there will be a blog post a few weeks later that you can easily share for a more condensed preview of your wedding day!
I see that you do destination weddings. How does that work?
Wexford PA is my home base, and I serve Pittsburgh PA weddings whenever I’m not on the road. I think the most important thing about my destination wedding photography is that, no matter where you get married in the continental US, there’s no extra fee for my travel. If you bring me to Florida for your wedding, the package and pricing options will be the same for you as for my couples in the burgh. Weddings outside the country do include a travel fee, but we’re usually able to keep costs similar the cost of hiring a local but with a LOT MORE perks. A few countries don’t always allow for me to legally photograph, which is a bummer, so we’ll need to check in with your resort or wedding planner to find out the rules and get the A-Okay! For you Disney Wedding Cruise folks, contact me for a special pricing!
Do you have any favorite wedding venues?
I sure do. My absolute favorite wedding venue in the world is aboard Disney Cruise Line. Still, most of my weddings are on land, and I have shot all different types of venues. Some are barns, some are beaches, some are ballrooms, and some are country clubs. To see my favorite local venues, check out my page dedicated to Pittsburgh Weddings.
What’s a first look? Do we need one?
So glad you asked! I have an article on the blog all about Wedding Day first-look photo shoots. Couples who do first looks get to spend the whole day together, have two times the number of portraits, and get to enjoy cocktail hour with their guests. (Not to mention calmed nerves and fantastically personal photos of the first time you see each other!) I’m a huge advocate for first looks. Just ask me about it. We can talk for hours 😉
Can you help with my timeline?
Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Did I say yes? I know all about wedding timelines, and I’d love to help with yours so you get a chance to enjoy your wedding. Please contact me, because getting my help with your timeline makes sure you get the most out of your photography time. More time = more photos!!!
